FAIRMONT -- The owner of a $1,200 puppy said Saturday he will press charges against the man who allegedly stole the silky terrier Thursday night.
Meanwhile, the dog is safe and sound at Animal Kingdon at the Middletown Mall.
Marino said he won't press charges against the woman who returned him. But he will press charges against her boyfriend, who allegedly stole the pup.
The crime for stealing the dog is grand larceny because it is worth more than $1,000. The penalty for that crime is one to 10 years in prison.
On Thursday night, two college-aged men entered Animal Kingdom just before closing time, police said.
They began looking at a silky terrier, one of the most prestigious and expensive small dogs at the store.
Workers said they went to help another customer. When they came back, a cage was empty, and the lock to the cage was gone, too.
Marino had said he was more concerned about the dog than the money.
"This is one of the happiest days I've probably had since I've been in business," Marino said. "To see him come back and know that he is unharmed is great."
