ORGAS -- A punctured pit liner at a drilling site in Boone County Monday has caused approximately 3,000 gallons of freshwater, drilling soap and brine to spill into the Big Coal River, according to a release from the State Department of Environmental Protection
Office of Oil and Gas from the DEP responded to the spill, which was immediately reported by Cabot Oil and Gas Company, the release said.
No oil was spilled during the late-morning incident, but water from the drilling operation traveled approximately 300 feet underground, through a ditch and into the river, affecting about 30 feet of the stream between Seth and Orgas, the release said.
Workers are cleaning up the spill.
No citations have been issued, the release said.
