Emergency crews still trying to clean up debris and diesel fuel from head on collision.
MASON COUNTY -- Two tractor-trailers are to blame for the closure of U.S. Route 35 at the border between Putnam and Mason counties early Wednesday morning.
The two box trucks collided shortly after 6:30a.m. One of the trucks rolled off route 35 the other stopped down the road, both with severe damage, according to emergency dispatchers.
A West Virginia State Trooper on the scene tells 13News, one truck went left of center and crashed head on into the other tractor trailer.
Two people were transported from the scene with unknown injuries. There were early reports that one driver was trapped inside one of the trucks.
Hazmat crews on the scene had several hundred gallons of diesel fuel to clean up from the trucks busted fuel tanks.
According to dispatchers one of the trucks is hauling benzene, turpentine, and methanol. There are reports of leakage and no shelter in place called at this point.
Emergency crews tell 13News that the road will be closed for the duration of the day.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
