School Ranks in "US News & World Report" for Rural Medicine
Story by Courtney Dunn
MORGANTOWN -- West Virginia University is making national headlines again.
This time with it's top-ranking medical program.
The School of Medicine has been recognized as one of the top ten schools in the country for rural medicine by "US News and World Report."
WVU beat 144 other schools to get its spot of honor.
The school was selected based on ratings by medical school deans and senior faculty all across the country.
Officials say the state has long been a leader in rural health and now they are finally getting the recognition for their achievements that they deserve.
"Sure it's nice to be in 'US News and World Report,' but really it's that recognition by others that we're doing something very special and very unique here at WVU that makes this award such a great one for all of us," said Dean Dr. John Prescott.
Prescott says while they are pleased to be in the top ten they don't plan on stopping there.
They want to be in the number one spot.
If you'd like to see a copy of the rankings for yourself it's on page 38 of the current magazine.
