City Must also offer current health plan to Union while a compromise can be reached

HUNTINGTON -- Cabell Circuit Judge John Cummings has ruled that the city of Huntington can implement it's new insurance plan effective July 1.

However, the city must also continue to offer its current plan to police and fire retirees while the Union is working with the city to reach a compromise.

Thursday, Judge Cummings heard arguments from the the city and two of its employee unions, Fraternal Order of Police Gold Star Lodge 65 and International Association of Firefighters Local 289. The effort was to get the city to "negotiate in good faith," something the Union said was not happening and the reason for the injunction request.

The new plan would increase rates to 73 dollars a month for single workers and 153 dollars a month for families.

Union members tell 13 News they plan to appeal this decision to the Supreme Court.
