WHEELING -- Wheeling Island Hotel, Casino and Racetrack has undergone a position consolidation.

The end result is 30 less management, supervisory, director and front line staff.

That word came Tuesday from Jim Simms, Wheeling Island's President and General Manager.

Simms says this is a decision they have been considering for sometime because of the poor economy and competition from other states.

However, Simms says they waited to make their decision because of Christmas.

Affected employees were offerred severance based on their years of service and they were offered the opportunity to post for any other open jobs at the facility.
