Craigsville Volunteer Fire Department mourning the loss of two of their own

CRAIGSVILLE --  -- Two firefighters are killed in the line of duty in Nicholas County.

The Craigsville Volunteer fire department is mourning the loss of two of their own.

Fire officials said the department responded to the trailer fire in the town of Cottle, just after 10:00 p.m. Thursday evening. The two men were killed while inside the structure, battling the fire. Paul Blake, with the Craigsville VFD, said one of the men was a veteran, the other had several years experience.

Their names are not being released at this time.

The West Virginia State Fire Marshal's Office and the Nicholas County Sheriff's office are investigating.

The State Fire Marshal's crisis team is counseling fellow firefighters Friday morning.

Our thoughts and prayers will be with the families of our fallen Brothers. We will also assist the C.B.C. VFD in any way possible. Having been involved in the Ghent Explosion, and events to follow, in Jan. 2007 I can tell you that it will be a long hard road, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. God Bless you all.

This is a tragedy. These brave firefighters were experienced and seasoned firefighters. The entire firefighting community has much to ponder as the loss of these commrades weighs heavily on the proudest community servants in existence. I cannot imagine the grief which this loss has created for the families and community. However, I can offer that firefighters everywhere are ready to come to your side, grieve with you, and help in any way possible. My prayers go to the families of the lost men.
