Institute -- Postal officials and administrators from West Virginia State University gathered Thursday in Institute to unveil a postage stamp dedicated to Anna Julia Cooper.
Cooper’s stamp will be issued June 1st. It is the 31st stamp to be issued in the U.S. Post Office's Black Heritage Commemorative series.
Cooper was known as a scholar, educator, and activist. She was born into slavery in 1858 and was the fourth African American woman to earn a doctorate degree.
