School will be open Tuesday, but will close when repairs on the problem start, officials said.

WHEELING -- Students at St. Vincent De Paul school in the Elm Grove section of Wheeling had Monday off. A plumbing leak underneath the gym floor was to blame. It happened right where the gym floor meets the kitchen area of the school.
As of Monday, the gym was off limits and had been been covered by a tarp.
The gym floor will be pulled back and the concrete underneath the floor will be broken up. This is being done so restoration crews can find the leak in the plumbing system, fill that hole with fresh concrete and then re-set the gym floor.
Bryan Minor, Communications Director for the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, said the original school is nearly a century old and the gym is nearly 50 years old. He believes this plumbing leak occurred fr where the old system met up with the new.
Crews are hoping to isolate the leak at that point and put in new plumbing to remedy the situation.
Minor hopes the contractors can start work later this week. There will be school Tuesday, but as soon as work begins on the gym floor, Minor said students will be off. However, homework packets will be given to them so they can keep up on their school work.
The school holds an annual basketball tournament in the gym every April. There are back up plans for another venue or change in date, but that hasn't been decided until the work begins on the floor.
