Glendale -- The Glendale Drive-In Theater, located in Marshall County, is in jeopardy of closing unless more movie goers start showing up, 7 News learned.

The owners say they're doing all they can to keep the drive-in open. Friday night they're bringing in a live band to begin at 7p.m. and play up until the movie starts and then the band will begin performing again during the intermission between the two movies.

Currently the drive in is showing Transformers and Star Trek. The cost Friday night is $6.50 a car load.

The drive-in also holds a flea market every Sunday and they say that helps keep them up and running.

The only other drive-in around the area is The Winter drive-in in Wintersville, Ohio.

I'm a biker and have lived here most of my life. I grew up with the Glen Dale Drive in. That place was really something when I was a kid. It was real nice, speakers on every pole, great movies AND food. I've watched it decay over the years, and it really bothers me. I went to the flea market about 2 weeks ago, looking for the fellow that runs the place, but could not find him. Left my name and phone number, but never did get a call. Well, maybe he didn't get the message, so thought I'd post something here and the word could get back to him. I'm willing to work at the Drive In for FREE. Yeah... I want to help fix it up and restore it back to the way it used to be. I'm retired, but have worked as a maintenance tech for about 27 years, and also did some maintenance work in the coal mine. I'm pretty darned sure that I could get some of those old speakers working, and fix some of the other things that are at the Drive in. As to the bands at the drive in.... a GREAT idea ! How's about some HENDRIX music some time ? Anyway, pass the word along to the guy that operates the Drive in and tell him to give me a buzz if he would like some help.

I'm part of the band (the Wall of Sound) that played the past 2 weeks before the movie- we had a blast, and based on the audience response, people loved live music before the movie; loads of credit to John and the rest of the family for trying so hard to keep this alive and even start something really new and positive locally; we're going to do what we can to help too (as well as other local friends who have already helped out a lot already with the marquee and the collapsed wall so far, check it out this week), mixing it up with the live music, DJ, karaoke, etc. This week we'll be backing up Justin Huffman as Big Heavy Wall of Sound with some HARD blues, we'll be bringing in some country, pop, punk and who knows what else this summer, and we're trying to put together some all-day events on Saturdays, mini-festivals or Battle of the Bands or whatever you want to call them. If people keep responding as favorably as the novelty wears off, we stand a good chance of getting some really popular acts here- maybe Brad'll just happen to stop in on jam night....

I think it is a shame that the drive in is in danger of closing. One thing that would possibly help is changing the movie line up to more family oriented movies. I feel that this year there has not been a whole lot of good movies showing. Hopefully the drive in can start getting more new releases instead of sometimes carrying the same movies over for two weeks.

I agree that alot of the blame for the costs are on the Studios and actors but if everyone would stop for just one weekend and not spend a dime at a theater then maybe they would open their eyes and change some things. The only reason they get paid like they do is because we still go and watch them. There are alot of things in this world that really needs to be changed but in all reality, none of them will be changed quickly or completely. Its life and we just have to follow our own paths through the muck of life.

While I agree that Drive ins are a historical thing...I also believe that technology has dictated an indoor theater! If Drive ins want to co exsist with the :"indoor theaters" then it is obvious they have to conform to the times and upgrade. And dont blame the :"big guys" for the $80 costs to see a movie...blame the actors directors and producers that demand the huge salaries to make these films....its a simple concept...

I love taking my daughter to the drive in and it is a great value. I look forward to each Thursday when I can call the drive-in recording to see what the new attractions are. My only suggestion would be to try to pack the schedule with more films to bring in families with young children. I hope something can be done to keep this local gem open and showing films.

This is a horrible thing to hear. I grew up in Moundsville and went to the drive-in every chance we got. There needs to be something done about it, whether it be looked at by historical societies or a grant from the state or something. These drive-ins are part of our history. What constitutes a historical place is the fact of how many memories and familes(LOL) has been made there. In the economy that we are in right now everyone needs to tighten their belts and if you want some entertainment then go to the movies but why pay the ridiculous prices that the indoor theaters are charging. For less than one persons admission to the big guys you could get 10 people into the drive-in, or how ever many will fit in your car. I took myself and 3 kids to see Twilight and by the time we got in, bought drinks and a popcorn for each my total was $80.00. That is horrible. Someone do something for them
