BROOKSIDE, Ohio -- An Ohio Valley group called Citizens For Justice is protesting the way the Belmont County authorities are handling a nearly three-year-old robbery case.
Jerry Moore II was charged with robbing the Insta-Cash store in Brookside in November of 2006.
He has been tried twice, each time ending in a hung jury.
Now the prosecutor plans a third trial.
The Citizens For Justice have a website and flyers.
They say their goal is equal treatment under the law.
And they say after two trials and two hung juries, they believe there's simply not sufficient evidence to convict the 30-year-old Brookside man.
They say the Insta-Cash employees have not even proven the store was actually robbed.
"These folks have not produced records identifying how much money they started with, how much was lost, or even if there was money there," says John Moore, chairperson of the group and the defendant's uncle. "There are several what I would call blunders by the Bridgeport Police Department in this investigation."
The group's web address is citizensforjustice.us.
They plan to take on other cases after this.
Prosecutor Chris Berhalter says he commends them for forming a group to seek justice.
"This is what we do every day," says Berhalter. "While it is not easy and it is not always perfect, it is certainly worth the effort."
