WHEELING -- Wheeling water crews worked through the night to repair a break in a 30-inch main on River Road that burst again after a repair was just completed yesterday.
According to Operations Manager Rusty Jebbia, the latest repair was completed just before 3:00 a.m. and water should be restored to all customers.
The boil order is still in effect for residents and businesses from 1st to 16th Streets and Water to McCulloch Streets.
The water main burst on Tuesday afternoon, sending water rushing down River Road, shutting down traffic for some time.
Then, hours later, another break occurred in a different line in the Grandview section of Wheeling.
Thursday, crews had the repairs completed, and began prepping River Road for road repair, but another break happened in the same area, sending crews back to square one.
The line that burst was marked 1893.
Jebbia said the infrastructure in Wheeling is old, more than 100 years old in places.
He said to replace all of the lines would cost billions of dollars, and Wheeling water customers and tax payers couldn't afford to replace the entire water line system.
