MORGANTOWN -- West Virginia University is home to one of the largest simulated underground coal mines in the world. President James Clements and other officials are planning to gather at the WVU Mine Training and Energy Technologies facility near Core to dedicate the mine Friday. Tours of the mine will begin at 1 p.m. and the dedication will follow.
The university plans to use the new mine to train new and experienced miners, according to information from WVU.
Rescue teams, fire brigade teams, new miners and others are expected to be on hand for the dedication.
Instructors at the mine will conduct tours and conduct a live fire demonstration inside the mine, according to WVU.
