PRINCETON -- November is recognized as National Diabetes Month. As part of this nation-wide event, a luminary services are being held.
Princeton Community Hospital's support group, "The Sugar Drops Group" organized a luminary service. It was held on Nov. 5 for children in the area who suffer from type-1 diabetes.
The service was held at the Mercer County Courthouse.
"It means a lot to me to have this support," said Daniel Miller, type-1 diabetic.
Miller and kids of all ages designed luminary bags. They were set up on the steps of the courthouse.
A few guest speakers addressed the group including Dr. T. Frazer, an endocrinologist.
"It is important to let people know about diabetes and what we go through," said McKenzie Barnett, type-1 diabetic.
Barnett says living with the illness is tough, but she knows she is not the only one fighting diabetes.
"I have friends with diabetes who are going through this too. I know I am not alone," said Barnett.
Princeton Community Hospital invites diabetics to join the support group. The next meeting will be held Nov. 19 starting at 6:30 p.m. inside the Princeton Community Education Classroom.
