HUNTINGTON --  Friends and family of the man shot and killed by a Huntington Police officer Nov. 8 gathered in remembrance Sunday night.

Many of those who knew Joe Porter met where he was shot at Club Babylon, and lit candles in his honor. They also hung a banner with pictures and a memorial poem written by his mother.

Porter's mother, Elizabeth Ferguson, said that she wants to tell people about his life. Ferguson said that his memory will be carried on by those who knew him. Right now, her main concern is taking care of the daughter that Porter left behind.

"What we're concentrating on is Layla, his daughter," said Ferguson. "He's not here to do it."

According to Huntington Police, Porter was shot after aiming a weapon at the officer. They said Porter was trying to flee Club Babylon last Sunday morning.
