WEIRTON -- The U.S. Marshals Service announced the arrest of Donald Joe Gaschler Nov. 20 at the Weirton Medical Center.
Marshals received information that Gaschler was ill, having been without his medication since his flight into the woods Nov. 18, and that he was going to the Weirton Medical Center.
U.S. Marshals were already en route to the hospital when Gaschler showed up at the hospital. Hospital staff recognized Gaschler from news reports and called the Weirton Police Department who responded immediately.
U.S. Marshals took custody of Gaschler from the hospital after he was deemed stable by medical staff. Gaschler was set to appear before the U.S. Magistrate at 1:30 p.m. Friday and is scheduled to then be transported to the Northern Regional Jail pending further hearings.
The U.S. Marshals Service credits the collaborative efforts of the federal, state and local law enforcement community with the successful conclusion to this case.
Agencies participating in the investigation were the U.S. Marshals Service, Drug Enforcement Agency, the Hancock Brooke Weirton Drug Task Force, Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and the Weirton Police Department.
