CHARLESTON -- An 81-year old opponent of mountaintop-removal was arrested this morning at the state capitol.

Roland Micklem, of Rock Creek, was sitting in a chair in the governor's reception room on the second day of a hunger strike when he was arrested by Belle Police on a charge dating from October.

Before his arrest, Micklem, who describes himself as a naturalist, spoke with 13 News about his concerns.

"I want our public officials to know why I'm doing this," he said. "It's more an act of mourning than anything else."

Micklem was arrested by Belle Police on a warrant for trespassing that dates back to Oct. 10.

He was then leading a protest march from Charleston to Mammoth Coal in eastern Kanawha County. Micklem was part of a group that strayed onto property owned by Walker Machinery and unfurled a banner.
