CHARLESTON --  The Mountain Mission in Charleston is seeing a greater demand for help from the needy this holiday season.

And, although individual donations are down slightly, corporate giving is increasing.

"We appreciate the public. They always seem to step up at a time of need. But, while everybody's hurting in this economy, the corporate world has stepped up and filled in," said Jeff Naylor, of Mountain Mission.

And, not only with donations of food and money but with time.

By sorting donations, volunteers like these folks from Wells Home Furnishings are a big help to the mission.

"We literally empty the barrels out on the table here and sort it out. And, as you can see, we've got the food sorted by type," said David Cooper, of Wells Home Furnishings.

After all the food is sorted in the next room, more volunteers will come in and box it up for families to pick up before Christmas. Mountain Mission hopes top feed 900 families this year, or roughly 3,000 people.

If your group or organization would like to volunteer to help out, call Mountain Mission at 304-344-3407.
