Officials say a Pilot Travel Center should start operating at the end of 2010.

JANE LEW -- A Pilot Travel Center is in the works on Route 7 near Weatherford International, Ltd. just outside of Jane Lew.

The center will bring 50 new jobs to the area, according to Doug Parsons, Director of the Lewis County Economic Development Authority.

There is a banner up near the planned site, and the company expects to start construction in late spring or early summer of 2010, Parsons said.

Although Parsons could not say what restaurant would go into the facility, he did say that it was a nationally known entity.

The economic development authority has been in talks with the company for about the last two years, according to Parsons.

They plan to have the facility up and running by late 2010, Parsons stated.

1rewd1, some crap jobs are better than the "no jobs" that the couch sitters don't have in that community. Get's them off their butts and earning a check instead of an 'entitlement.'

No matter how you look at it, it's a gas station with a fast food joint and a convenience store (with inflated prices). And where does that money go? Right to Tennessee.

How many of the locally owned businesses will this new venture kill off? How does this development add to the livability and daily quality of life? How does it fit in to an overall plan for development, a plan not being "develop something and have the highway engineers play connect the dots afterward" ? How many more fast and easy minimum wage jobs at chain stores and junk food shops does this area really need and when does it stop being pawned off as "economic development"?

Novelty is not progress.

any new business is and should be welcome. I for one would like to see a grocery store in our area.

I hope and pray that this Pilot puts the Jane Lew truck stop out of business... That place is nothing but a trash hole...

you can't exactly put a truckstop anywhere. The one in Jane Lew is the only one from exit 105 until the PA state line. This is a welcome addition and Jane Lew is a perfect place for it. Yeah, thank you Pilot.

Thank you Pilot. I drive truck, hate the so called truck stop at Jane Lew with their high prices. Plus they don't take Fuelman cards. So, I'd say you're era is over with the terrible parking lot and cruddy showers.

Pilot is a truckstop, not just a gas station. Heaven forbid that a place opens up to provide truckers with a place to park for the night. As for as economics go, do you have any clue whatsoever how much it costs to fill up a truck with, say, 150 gallons of diesel? Right now, close to $450. Figure on 100-200 trucks per day buying that much.

Also, 50 jobs, even if they pay minimum wage are better than the number of people employed at the current empty property.

But, I'll bet you'd be perfectly happy if they said a Wal-Mart was being built there...

Yet another gas station/convenience store, how exciting. Just one more eyesore along the interstate.

How many of those do we need anyway?

This is what passes for economic development in Lewis County ...
