HUNTINGTON -- Marshall University is finding new ways to recruit nontraditional students with dependents with interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Marshall University Research Corp. has received a $586,500 grant from the National Science Foundation for the new Trailblazer Scholars Program.
Fifteen students who excel in academics, have a financial need and major in a STEM program will be eligible for the scholarships.
Thursday both West Virginia Senators applauded MERC for the securing the grant.
"The program is a crucial step toward diversifying our economy and transforming it into one driven by technology and innovation," U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., said.
