MORGANTOWN -- Starting Monday, Monongalia County Emergency Management (M.E.C.C.A) is coordinating emergency medication deliveries through the National Guard.

Residents who need the service can call their doctor or pharmacy to have the prescription filled and paid for over the phone.

The guard will then pick it up and deliver it, as well as food and other supplies as needed.

"The job of emergency management and emergency services department is to protect lives of our citizens here, getting the resources they need. Keeping them in a safe place, if they're okay at home, we want them to stay at home, so they feel more at ease and comfortable," said Mike Wolfe of M.E.C.C.A.

Emergency management says it has handled about five requests today with the help of a dozen national guardsmen.
