MARTINS FERRY, Ohio -- President of the NAACP in the Ohio Valley, Royal Mayo, is calling for the resignation of Martins Ferry Mayor Phil Wallace, after Wallace is heard on tape referring to a black person as a spook.

Wallace does not deny the claim, apologized to the public and says he will never use that word again.

While Mayo has not spoken to Wallace, he is not surprised the comment was made. Mayo said it proves that racism is still very much alive in 2010. Mayo also feels it's a word that Wallace uses on a regular basis, even though Wallace said he does not.

Mayo plans on meeting with Wallace to discuss the slur.
