Activities and achievements: Ben's passion for wildlife and the environment has taken shape in several ways. He has worked a part-time job at a veterinary clinic for several years, he raises bees and keeps a saltwater aquarium on his family's farm, and he volunteers with a therapeutic equestrian program for mentally challenged people. The 4-H president also is president of his school's chapter of the National Honor Society, and he volunteers at senior dinners, nursing homes and holiday toy and food drives. Ben also plays the saxophone in the marching band and jazz band.  

Plans: Ben wants to become a veterinarian specializing in marine biology. He is considering a double major in pre-veterinary medicine and biology, and then wants to pursue a veterinary degree at Cornell University. He is particularly interested in coral reefs and hopes to eventually work near Australia's Great Barrier Reef.
