Activities and achievements: During his summer vacations, Austin has attended several rigorous academic camps, including a high school scholars' program at Notre Dame University, a writing program at Brown University and the American Legion Mountaineer Boys State. The National Honor Society member is president of the Key Club and student body vice president. He volunteers with local Little League and Big Brothers/Big Sisters programs and works as a tutor for students at Southside Elementary. Austin also is on his way to becoming a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He also plays on his high school's varsity golf team.

Plans: Austin's top choices for college include Princeton, Notre Dame and Duke. He plans to major in either business or engineering and hopes to work in the energy sector, either researching or marketing affordable alternative fuels.
