Take Time to Support Local Shops this Season

Posted: Updated:

A major aspect of the holiday season is shopping. We need to buy gifts for friends and family.

Of course, finding that perfect item often means battling vicious crowds, long lines, traffic and everything that's the complete opposite of peace on earth and goodwill towards others.

But, when they unwrap their present, the hassle of procurement melts away.

When you're out looking this year, take an afternoon and seek out a locally owned business. The big chain stores are fine, but you'd be surprised what you might find once you veer off the beaten path. Linger, look, take your time and do not be afraid to take a risk.

Competing with Target, Walmart and all the big boys is a pretty tough assignment, but what the little guys lack in inventory, they make for in personality and charm.

Often, the owner will be the person answering your questions about a certain product. The men and women who brave these choppy retail waters are the small-business dynamos who are the backbone of the local economy. Anyone who knows this industry knows that it takes hard work and long hours just to keep your head above water.

This year, take some time and show your support for their dedication.
