Planners will use the summit to highlight the role and impact of the bioscience industry in West Virginia and the region, showcase research and commercialization efforts taking place at West Virginia universities and private companies, and discuss policies and programs to help nurture the industry. "This is an important industry for our state, and it will become an economic cornerstone in the years to come," Derek Gregg, chairman of BioWV, said in a news release. The agenda and presenter information for the summit has not been set in stone. Organizers say they will release that information as soon as it is finalized. However they say key topics will include policies and programs to grow the industry, university research ready for commercialization and bioscience company highlights. The summit also will include a legislative reception at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 25 so researchers, company representatives and others involved in the industry can talk with lawmakers about specific issues facing the industry. Organizers say sponsorship opportunities and exhibit space is available. The cost to attend the event is $25 for members, $50 for nonmembers and free to students.
