Mason County Sheriff David Anthony files for re-election amid legal troubles

Mason County Sheriff David Anthony has filed to run for re-election just weeks after being indicted on 42 counts wanton endangerment and embezzlement.

An official in the Mason County Clerk's Office confirmed that Anthony has filed the paperwork to run for a second term.

Earlier this month, Mason County commissioners started the process of trying to remove Anthony from office.

Some of the charges against Anthony are related to an incident late last year when he allegedly fired a gun over the head of his 13-year-old son, according to court documents. The charges include wanton endangerment, child neglect creating risk of injury, domestic assault, shooting near a dwelling.

He also was indicted on fraudulent scheme, 19 counts of embezzlement and 18 counts of unauthorized use of a government purchasing card charges, court documents state.

Anthony has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
