CHARLESTON (AP) — West Virginia would follow the lead of Ohio and Florida with Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin's proposed legislative crackdown of so-called pill mills.

The Senate health committee heard Tuesday that both those states have seen success with measures targeting clinics that unlawfully provide pain drug prescriptions.

Tomblin has included similar licensing and oversight provisions in his wide-ranging bill. It addresses various forms of substance abuse.

But another part of the bill borrows from Kentucky. That language proposes a computer tracking system for methamphetamine ingredients. A law enforcement official from Kentucky told the health committee that this system isn't working there.

The House and Senate health committees are hosting a public hearing for the governor's drug bill 4 p.m. Thursday in the House of Delegates Chamber.
