The Kanawha Valley Section of the American Chemical Society hosted its first meeting at West Virginia State University in Institute on Wednesday evening.
Students from West Virginia State University and the University of Charleston heard from Duane Dombek of Matric. Matric and its partner BioAmber received the Presidential Green Chemistry Award, given in national recognition for outstanding accomplishments in research, development and implementing green chemical technologies.
"It's a very high honor to be recognized. There were more than 80 technologies nominated for the award, and five awards were given, so one of those awards went to BioAmber and its partners. And we were very honored to be included," Dombeck said.
Dombek said he hopes to inspire students to find jobs in green chemistry technology that will benefit people and the environment.
