Dr. John A. Draper Jr., state service personnel chief Jackee Long and Shepherd University President Suzanne Shipley have joined the board of directors at West Virginia University Hospitals-East.
Draper, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, represents the City Hospital medical staff on the board as its newly elected president. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and completed his residency in orthopedics at Emory University Hospital in Georgia. A long-time member of City's medical staff, Draper has an orthopedic practice at 309 Medical Court in Martinsburg.
Long, of Martinsburg, is the president of the West Virginia School Service Personnel Association and formerly worked as service personnel coordinator for Berkeley County Schools. As state president, she represents more than 9,000 para-professionals, secretarial/clerical, school transportation, custodial/maintenance and food service employees in all 55 West Virginia counties. She is a member of the AFL-CIO.
Shipley, Shepherd's 15th president, began her academic career at the University of Cincinnati. She also worked in Arizona, Germany and Maryland before moving to West Virginia in 2007.
She earned degrees from University of Texas and Texas Tech University and is a Fulbright Scholar and an American Council on Education fellow. Shipley heads the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission's Council of Presidents.
The 15-member board includes representatives from Berkeley and Jefferson counties as well as individuals from WVU's Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center in Morgantown.
