Greg Babe, 54, who has logged 36 years with Bayer Corporation, starting as an intern, will retire June 30.
Babe has been president and CEO of Bayer Corporation USA since October 2008 and Bayer MaterialScience LLC since July 2004.
Bayer announced the retirement Thursday.
Babe was the first-ever U.S. intern at the New Martinsville Bayer production facility in 1976. He took on several management positions of increasing responsibility, including managing a facility in Germany.
He was named senior vice president of information services in 1999, and in 2001 he was named president and CEO of Bayer Corporate and Business Services LLC, where he was responsible for providing expertise and support in engineering, information systems, materials management, human resources and accounting.
He currently serves as president and CEO of the Bayer USA Foundation and chairman of the Bayer Political Action Committee.
Babe is also part of the American Chemistry Council's executive committee and board of directors. He is chairman of the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the West Virginia University Foundation board.
Babe is a West Virginia native, has a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from WVU, and lives in Mt. Lebanon, Pa. with his wife and four children.
Bayer has 16,400 employees in North America, with more than 15,000 in the United States.
