Was the Civil War just a war?

That question will be answered during "A Journey Through Time," the Winter Lecture Series at Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park, which is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Feb. 19.

Dr. Aaron Sheehan-Dean, Eberly Professor of Civil War Studies at West Virginia University, will be the lead lecturer. He will examine the framework of just law theory to consider fundamental questions about the nature of the conflict, including how were non-combatants and prisoners of war treated, what were the roles of guerrillas and irregular forces, and what was the relationship between civilian and military authority in the North and the South?

The answers to those questions can reveal much about how the Civil War fits into the larger pattern of global warfare and democracy in the modern world.

The program at the Blennerhassett Museum of Regional History in Parkersburg is free of charge. Attendees should reserve seats in advance by calling 304-420-4800. For information, visit online at www.blennerhassettislandstatepark.com.
