CHARLESTON -
On top of the myriad rules for decorum and orders of business at the West Virginia Legislature are rules outlining the process for the regular, 60-day session.
New bills have to be introduced by a certain point in the session, all measures have to make it out of committees by a specific date and there is a final day for bills to be passed in the chamber they originated in.
Monday marked the last day for bills to be introduced, and several were rolled out.
In the Senate, 22 bills were introduced Monday. A total of 37 bills were introduced in the House of Delegates.
In the House, one bill would increase the salaries for forensic lab employees of the West Virginia State Police. Another would give an extension for the amount of time to file a civil action for a claim of sexual abuse against a minor.
In the Senate, one measure would require direct health care providers wear identification badges. Another would make trademark counterfeiting a crime.
Feb. 26 is the day bills are due out of committees in the house the bill originated in to make sure there are three full days for the bills to be read.
The last day to consider bills on third reading in the houses they originated in is Feb. 29.
The Legislature adjourns at midnight March 10.
