Meetings scheduled to help Kanawha County residents understand their new House Districts

Posted: Updated:

With West Virginia's primary election fast approaching, some residents of Kanawha County may be wondering exactly which district they will be in now.

The state's largest delegate district, the House 30th, was broken up into two smaller districts — the 35th and 36th districts — during the 2011 redistricting process. As a result, instead of living in one district with seven delegates representing them, residents now may be in one of two smaller districts.

The change has left some voters just wondering who they can vote for in the May 8 primary.

To ease questions, Delegate Eric Nelson, R-Kanawha, and Robin Holstein, a member of the West Virginia Republican State Executive Committee, will host informational sessions to help voters in the old 30th District learn where their new districts and precincts are.

"Delegate Nelson has the map for the 35th District and I have maps for the 36th," Holstein said. "We have two dates confirmed and are working on a possible third. A representative from the (Kanawha County) Clerk's office has been invited to join us to answer detailed questions."

The public meetings will be from 7-8 p.m. Feb. 23 at Gander Mountain in Southridge and from 6-7 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Loudendale Community Center, Loudendale

For information, call Holstein at 304-546-4668.
