The Public Service Commission of West Virginia's Transportation Enforcement Division is participating in Brake Safety Week through Sept. 15.

Brake Safety Week is designed to help drivers of commercial motor vehicles understand the importance of proper brake inspection, maintenance and operation by focusing on enhancing knowledge, regulatory compliance and performance of commercial vehicle braking systems.

PSC enforcement officers are conducting safety inspections focusing on brakes at the weigh stations on Interstate 64 East near Winfield, Interstate 77 North and South at Mineral Wells, and Interstate 79 North and South in Fairmont.

"Brake Safety Week is a continuation of our efforts to improve highway safety. This initiative gives our enforcement officers the opportunity to interact with other individuals who share a responsibility of commercial vehicle highway safety. We remain steadfast in our commitment to eliminate fatalities on West Virginia highways. This gives us yet another opportunity to further our commitment," said Gary Edgell, director of the PSC Transportation Enforcement Division.

Brake Safety Week is part of the Operation Air Brake Campaign, an ongoing effort by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance.
