CHARLESTON (AP) — West Virginia's leading business and coal industry groups want to see Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin re-elected.
The state's Chamber of Commerce and Coal Association each endorsed the Democrat on Sept. 13.
The support arrives for Tomblin in a race marked by dueling views of West Virginia's long-struggling economy.
Republican candidate Bill Maloney has cited the state's dismal income and poverty rankings to argue that Tomblin has failed. Tomblin was a longtime legislator and state Senate president before becoming governor.
The coal industry has seen layoffs and slowed production in recent months. That has weakened state tax revenues.
But Coal Association President Bill Raney says Tomblin has helped the industry through tough times before. The chamber credits the Democrat for working to move the state forward.
