The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce is endorsing Republican candidate Patrick Morrisey for attorney general.
Authorities highlighted chamber members' overwhelming support of Morrisey during the annual business summit.
Citing concerns with Attorney General Darrell McGraw, Chamber President Steve Roberts said he thinks Morrisey is the best person for the job.
"It's simply time for McGraw to be replaced," he said.
"We have real concerns about Mr. McGraw's objectivity and his ability to carry out the duties of attorney general," Roberts added. "The fact that he is avoiding showing up for debates that he won't really appear in public and answer questions. … We're not being negative about it but after looking at Mr. McGraw's performance and record, it is clear that Mr. Morrisey is the better choice."
Morrisey said he is delighted the chamber endorsed his candidacy.
"I would like to thank the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce for their endorsement," Morrisey said in a released statement. "The Chamber understands that only one Attorney General candidate will make protecting West Virginia jobs a top priority. I look forward to working with business leaders and all citizens to ensure that West Virginia maximizes its potential as a job-producing state."
