The paralegal studies program at West Virginia Northern
Community College has earned a three-year accreditation by NALS, the association
for legal professionals, according to a news release from the school.
Paralegal instructor and Program Director John Plesa said as
part of the accreditation the college was asked to provide a self-study report
on the development of the program, which began in 2006.
Plesa, a Weirton native who led the school's accreditation
effort, said the process took about three years, and the NALS recommended some
curriculum changes during that time.
"The NALS team conducted a two-day site visit on the
Wheeling campus," Plesa said in a news release. "In three years, the college
will submit another report to NALS in anticipation of earning another three- or
five-year accreditation based on the college following additional
recommendations made during the site visit."
The paralegal studies program at West Virginia Northern
offers both a two-year associate in applied science degree and a one-year
certificate in applied science.
"We are very pleased our paralegal studies program has
received this distinction," Vicki Riley, vice president of academic affairs at
the college, said in a news release.
