West Virginia University's football opponent Saturday, Sept. 29 will provide a unique opportunity continuing education for members of the West Virginia State Bar.

Baylor University President and former federal judge and U.S. Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr is scheduled to speak at 9 a.m. Sept. 29 in the Marilyn E. Lugar Courtroom at the West Virginia University College of Law as part of its Continuing Legal Education Series for members of the West Virginia State Bar.

Starr will preview the Supreme Court's upcoming session, and his speech will be webcast on the WVU College of Law website at law.wvu.edu.

WVU's football team kicks off against Baylor at 12:06 p.m. Saturday as part of its homecoming celebration.

Starr was named president of Baylor in 2010. He has argued 36 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, including 25 cases during his time as Solicitor General of the United States. Starr also was appointed to serve as Independent Counsel for five investigations, including Whitwater, from 1994-1999.

Starr has written more than 25 publications, including the 2002 book "First Among Equals: The Supreme Court in American Life."

Starr taught current constitutional issues and civil procedure as the Duane and Kelly Roberts Dean and professor of law at Pepperdine University for six years before becoming Baylor's president.

Starr, 66, was born in Vernon, Texas, and raised in San Antonio. He and his wife, Alice, have three children and six grandchildren.
