Utilities: 65,000 WV customers without power

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON (AP) — Utility crews in West Virginia are returning power to more and more customers.

Approximately 65,000 customers were without power Saturday, down from Friday's total by nearly 30,000 customers.

FirstEnergy's website says that 48,671 remain without power, while Appalachian Power reports 16,272 customers in the dark.

FirstEnergy said many of those customers are in Preston and Randolph counties, which were hit hard by snow.

More than one-quarter million customers were without power at the height of Sandy.
