Utilities: 53,000 WV customers without power

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON (AP) — Utility crews continue to restore power to thousands in West Virginia who have been left in the dark for nearly a week since Superstorm Sandy.

Approximately 53,000 customers were without power on Sunday, down from Saturday's total of about 65,000 customers.

FirstEnergy's website says that 37,795 remain without power, while Appalachian Power reports 15,400 customers in the dark.

More than one-quarter million customers were without power at the height of Sandy.
