WV electors cast state's votes for Romney, Ryan

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON (AP) — President Barack Obama won re-election more than a month ago, but West Virginia's electors stuck with the GOP ticket.

Five Republicans gathered at the state Capitol on Monday. Each  cast one of West Virginia's electoral votes for Mitt Romney and running mate Paul Ryan.

The GOP nominees carried the state over Obama and Vice President Joe Biden with more than 62 percent of the vote. The Democrats lost in all 55 counties.

But Obama won in 26 states plus Washington, D.C., giving him 332 electoral votes to Romney's 206. Obama also attracted more than 51 percent of the popular vote nationally.

West Virginia's electors were Betty Ireland, John McCuskey, Sarah Minear, Mick Staton, and David Tyson.
