The American Red Cross is closing its blood donation center in Charleston effective Jan. 1.
The decision to close the center was made following an evaluation of the organization's operations to reduce costs and increase efficiency, said Cheryl Gergely, manager of communications for American Red Cross Blood Services.
The Greater Alleghenies Blood Services Region will continue to operate donation centers in Huntington, Morgantown, Parkersburg and Wheeling and hold blood drives at area churches, businesses, schools and other community locations, Gergely said.
