PARKERSBURG, WV -

West Virginia University at Parkersburg has hired two new administrators: Scott Poe, who began as the human resources director in late December, and Tabitha Anderson, who in February joined the staff as the vice president of the college's workforce and community education.

A native of the area, Poe graduated from Parkersburg High School and then earned a bachelor of science in business administration from West Liberty University. He served as director of human resources at Pleasant Valley Hospital and employment/recruitment coordinator and compensation and benefits manager for Camden Clark Memorial Hospital. Most recently, he worked as human resources manager at Matheny Motor Truck Co. in Parkersburg.

Anderson, a native of Cypress, Texas, most recently served as learning and organization performance consultant at Learning and Performance Solutions Group. Prior to that, she was a clinical assistant professor at Texas A&M University, where she taught courses in leadership, organization development and adult learning principles. She also served eight years as a training specialist and manager at Bellville Tube Co. in Bellville, Texas.

Anderson earned a bachelor of science in human resource development and industrial technology education from Indiana State University, a master's degree in health policy and management from Texas A&M University and a doctorate in work force education and development from Pennsylvania State University.

In other news at WVU-P, President Marie Foster Gnage has been selected Citizen of the Year by Parkersburg Elks Lodge No. 198.

A celebration in Gnage's honor was held April 27 at First Presbyterian Church, Parkersburg.

In selecting Gnage, Elks leaders cited her personal interest and involvement in the revitalization of downtown Parkersburg; administrative leadership in the expansion of the academic curriculum offered at WVU Parkersburg, including the startup of the college's Downtown Center on Market Street in downtown Parkersburg; and input, direction and guidance to the West Virginia National Guard and other state and local officials regarding the Parkersburg armory design and construction on the campus of WVU Parkersburg.

Gnage became the sixth president of WVU Parkersburg in mid-2004. Recently, she was appointed to the American Association of Community Colleges' 21st Century Commission on the Future of Community Colleges. She is chairwoman of the AACC's board of directors and also serves as past chair of the American Council on Education's Network Executive Board.

Gnage also serves on the Mid-Ohio Valley Chamber of Commerce board; the Region IV Workforce Investment Board; the United Way of the Mid-Ohio Valley board of governors; the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Council; the Campus Compact board of directors; and the West Virginia Humanities Council.
