BRIDGEPORT — Meadowbrook Mall is hosting a grand reopening celebration Nov. 16-17, marking the end of an eight-month renovation that has cost more than $5 million.

The mall didn't close while the improvements were being made, said mall spokesman Joe Bell.

"We have perfected a method where we do a vast majority of the work after the mall closes for the evening between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., when a lot of the folks who walk the mall for their health come in," Bell said. "Our construction crews lower plastic sheeting over the storefronts where they're working to seal off the area against dust.

"This allows all merchants to stay open every day they want to and allows customers access to all the shops."

Updates at Meadowbrook Mall include an expanded food court area with additional seating and an outdoor patio area, new signs, a family restroom and an area for mothers to nurse infants, as well as new porcelain tile and carpeting, new ceiling treatments and more skylights, new lighting, new security systems and HVAC.

The renovation went smoothly for merchants, said Bridgette Campbell of Folk Heart Designs, a store inside the mall.

"It was always a nice mall but it's coming into the times now," Campbell said of Meadowbrook's new look. "It's a very beautiful mall. It's bright and airy. The carpets made it warm and kind of homey.

"There's soon to be a play land for the kids, so that's going to be nice. It's definitely getting even more family-friendly than it was before."

A lot of family-friendly activities are scheduled for the reopening celebration Nov. 16-17.

There will be refreshments and prize giveaways, plus diversions including face painting, a magic show, free caricature portraits and fireworks. Local and national entertainers will perform, including Logan County native and "America's Got Talent" winner Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. in a free concert at 2 p.m. Nov. 17, as well as Miss West Virginia Miranda Harrison and Disney TV stars Caroline Sunshine (Tinka from "Shake It Up!") and Nathan Kress (Freddie from "iCarly").

Meadowbrook Mall is located at Interstate 79 Exit 121 in Bridgeport.
