Three college football players from Concord University were arrested Saturday, Nov. 16 and charged in a home invasion.
Russell Bailey, Jr., Maricco also known as "Ricco," Sanders and Riyahd Richardson all are facing charges of malicious wounding, petty larceny and conspiracy. They were arrested Saturday, but according to the criminal complaint the incident happened Tuesday, Nov. 12.
News of a violent night sent shockwaves throughout Concord's campus. According to a criminal complaint, the three athletes share the same story. The complaint states the three attended an off-campus apartment to purchase marijuana. But according to the alleged victim, the athletes went to his apartment just to hang out.
Just as the reason for the visit to the apartment has two different sides, so does what happened next to cause the fight. The three athletes state the male victim pulled out a gun, while the male victim claimed one of the athletes grabbed his gun in a threatening manner. At that point a fight broke out.
The complaint states the three athletes began brutally beating the male victim as his fiance watched.
In her statement the fiance said, "I thought I was going to die."
The criminal complaint continues to provide details, which include that the male victim was left with bruising on his face, lips, cheeks and ribs.
The complaint said Bailey, Sanders and Richardson took off, allegedly stealing the gun and $300 in cash from the victim's home.
Deputies were able to recover the gun from the help of one of the athletes. The incident is still under investigation by the Mercer County Sheriff's Department. The three are facing charges of malicious wounding, petty larceny and conspiracy.
