The West Virginia Department of Education, in partnership with the Alliance for Excellent Education, announced its participation as a state host in the Digital Learning Day campaign.

The national effort is designed to celebrate innovative teaching and highlight practices that personalize learning and engage students, exploring how digital learning can provide all students with the opportunities they deserve — to build the skills needed to succeed in college, a career, and life.

Through this work and by hosting a Digital Learning Day Feb. 5 the groups hope West Virginia will build momentum for a wave of innovation that changes policies, shifts attitudes and supports wide-scale adoption of these instructional practices.

As a state participant for Digital Learning Day, West Virginia encourages all education stakeholders -- districts, schools, teachers, students, librarians, parents and business and community partners to join the email list to participate in all Digital Learning Day activities. By joining the email list, participants will have access to targeted toolkits that include instructional tools and resources; detailed lesson plans provided by rock star educators; and activities and ideas for planning their own Digital Learning Day celebration.

On Digital Learning Day, the Alliance for Excellent Education is planning a high-profile national Digital Learning Day celebration in Washington, DC that includes high-profile dignitaries, policymakers and educational leaders who are passionate about the potential for digital learning in the nation's public schools.

The day's agenda includes a "Digital Learning Fair" and "Making It Personal" kiosks that feature hands-on activities and lessons to demonstrate digital learning in action and real-life stories of students and teachers who have already realized the potential through the use of digital learning. The national event will also include perspectives from district-level experts who have already successfully navigated the digital learning shift, and they will be on hand to answer questions from educators across the country. Video footage from this national event will be available to all Digital Learning Day participants.
